Pat Hyland joined the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) team in 2012 after 15 years covering the people, issues, and events of the propane industry as the editor-in-chief of LP Gas Magazine. As director of industry communications for PERC, he is responsible for building strong relationships with propane marketers based on an understanding of PERC’s strategic goals, activities and industry needs. Pat helps oversee the organization’s outreach and communications efforts that connect PERC with the industry’s grass roots. He serves as a key liaison and point of contact with the industry’s state associations and other industry groups to foster collaboration to drive industry growth. The Cleveland, Ohio resident also serves on the National Propane Gas Association’s Conventions Committee, and in 2007 helped launch a campaign to promote the early detection of and find a cure for prostate cancer within the propane industry.

Bill Powers spent 35 years in senior executive positions in the Oil Heat and Propane industries, retiring in 2011 as President of Heritage Propane, a division of Energy Transfer Partners, then the third largest distributor of propane in the U.S., marketing through 440+ locations in 41 states.  Diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 44 in 1998, Bill had a radical prostatectomy, and has been an advocate for men to get annual check-up ever since to anyone that will listen to him, as his early detection was key to his survival.  Bill is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and earned his MBA at the University of Vermont.  In retirement, Bill formed WGP Holdings, LLC, an investment management company overseeing investments in sports, real estate, and middle market private equity ventures, and has served on many non-profit boards in northern New York.  Bill currently is Board President of North Country Ministry, and serves as Chairman of the Board of Governors at Glens Falls Hospital.

Ed Varney is Chairman and co founder of Pros4Care. Varney is a graduate of Berklee College and has a Master’s Degree in International Business from Rosemont College (PA). Ed has been in sales and management in the Energy business since 1989. Currently the Director of Business Development for Rego Products, Ed continues to help Pros4Care in all areas. Ed is also an active professional musician playing sax with several groups, his church and performs the National Anthem at various events. Ed lives in McKinney, TX with his wife Brooke and they have 6 grandchildren. Ed’s father Charles Varney is a Prostate cancer survivor.
